As our understanding of what costitutes a healthy life-style has evolved, many definitions of fitness have been offered. Traditionally, a person was "FIT" if he/she was not sick. Many years ago, a comprehensive study determined that there were certain behaviors associated with favorable health status. These healthly habits still hold true today: ~ not smoking ~ avoiding excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages ~ maintaining desirable weight ~ sleeping 7-8 hours a night ~ exercising ~ eating a nutritious breakfast daily ~ avoiding snacks WE are safe in saying that physical fitness implies a relationship between execise and weight control. Many people associate fitness with athletic powers. Strength, speed, power, agility and coordination are components of fitness for the athlete. But these attributes are not the keys to lifetime adult fitness.
